Cotton breathes – let it air out between Wears.
The Monsoon Stripe Shirt is handwoven from 100% handspun khadi cotton and coloured with natural plant dyes: a cool off-white ground ruled with fine indigo stripes, spaced wide enough to read clearly rather than crowd. It is a shirt that looks quiet from across a room and detailed up close.
Handspun, handwoven khadi
Every metre of this cloth begins as hand-spun yarn and is woven on a handloom. That is why the surface is never quite uniform: the slubs, the occasional darker fleck and the slight waver in the stripe are the loom’s signature, not a flaw. Khadi breathes in a way mill cotton does not, and it softens with every wash instead of wearing out.
What makes the Monsoon Stripe Shirt different
The shoulder yoke is cut on the cross-grain, so its stripes run horizontally against the vertical stripes of the body. It is a small, deliberate piece of tailoring that most striped shirts skip, and it is the first thing a tailor will notice. Coconut-shell buttons run down a centre placket, each one slightly different from the next because they are cut from a shell rather than moulded.
Natural dyes
The indigo is a plant dye, not a synthetic. It may bleed a little in the first few washes and will settle into a softer blue over the first year. That gentle fading is how naturally dyed cloth is supposed to age.
Fit and styling
A regular fit with a curved hem, equally at home tucked or loose. Full sleeves with two-button barrel cuffs that roll cleanly to the forearm. Sizes S to XXL. If you prefer a check to a stripe, the same cloth and construction is available as the Green Check Khadi Shirt, and there is a heavier handloom texture in the Rustic Stripe Full Sleeve Shirt.
