Cotton breathes – let it air out between Wears.
A green check khadi shirt handwoven from 100% handspun cotton and coloured with natural plant and flower dyes: a cool cream ground crossed by a fine tattersall of mid-blue, olive-green and soft tan lines. From across a room it reads as a calm blue-and-green check. Up close, the irregular handspun yarn and open plain weave show the hand of the loom in every square.
The cloth
Khadi is spun and woven by hand, so the yarn carries fine slubs and small variations that machine-made shirting never has. The open plain weave lets air move through the fabric, keeping the shirt light and breathable on warm days, and the cotton has a soft, matte surface with no sheen. Each length is woven by skilled artisans, keeping India’s handloom tradition alive.
Natural dyes
The blue, green and tan of the check come from plant and flower extracts rather than synthetic dyes, so the cloth is free from harsh chemicals and gentle on the skin. Natural dyes also give the colours a softer depth than a flat synthetic shade.
The details
A point collar, worn open at the neck or buttoned. Six round coconut-shell buttons run down a centre placket. The full sleeves finish in two-button barrel cuffs with a buttoned sleeve placket. The front is clean, with no chest pocket; the back has a horizontal yoke across the shoulders, and the gently curved hem sits well untucked.
How to wear it
Untucked over stone or grey trousers for everyday wear, or tucked into tailored trousers for the office. Because the check is built from blue and green on cream, it sits easily with navy, olive and earth tones. Browse more handwoven khadi shirts for men.
